The project The IOM project "Improving Knowledge of Remittance Corridors and Enhancing Development through Inter-Regional Dialogue and Pilot Projects in South-East Asia and Europe (with special focus on the Philippines and Indonesia)" seeks to enhance the link between migration and development within Southeast Asia (SEA) by:
- improving knowledge of financial corridors – which cover the various flows of remittances that migrants use – in Southeast Asia and between Southeast Asia and Europe;
- promoting regional dialogue about remittances policies and the link between remittances and development; and
- supporting innovative pilot projects that promote productive use of remittances both at origin and destination countries of migrants.
The studies being done Ercof Philippines is writing four remittance corridors studies as part of this AENEAS programme. The remittance corridors studies being done include:
- Malaysia-Indonesia
- Netherlands-Indonesia
- Malaysia-Philippines
- Italy-Philippines
The said studies, with their publication forthcoming, will contain results of remittance behaviour surveys as well as broad information on migration and development and remittance dynamics existing in these four remittance corridors. The studies, especially the Philippine remittance corridor studies, will also contain existing efforts by various stakeholders to maximize remittances for development.
Policy recommendations will also be forwarded through these studies so that stakeholders will be able to begin steps at directing remittances to development, and at helping migrants and their families.
